Overview

Film-faced plywood is made from birch, spruce, and poplar veneers coated with a phenolic film. The coating provides durability against wear and chemicals, and the edges are sealed for added protection, enhancing its resistance to moisture, abrasion, chemical degradation, and fungus compared to regular plywood. The concrete finishing can reach fair-faced quality when applied with Film-faced plywood. Reusable for many uses with uniform results.

Film-faced plywood offers higher stability and greater resistance to moisture, UV radiation, and corrosive chemicals, making it ideal for outdoor applications such as exterior surfaces of new buildings. The additional film layer and acrylic-coated edges increase its durability and reduce the likelihood of deformation when exposed to bad weather and harsh environments. Buildings exposed to direct sunlight benefit from increased durability when constructed with film-faced plywood.

This type of plywood is versatile, with applications in construction, furniture, and various building materials. Waterproof WBP (Weather and Boil Proof) plywood is particularly resistant to water, moisture, and chemical compounds due to its bonding and pressing process. Made from lighter materials than other wood products, film-faced plywood is durable and less prone to cracking or breaking during nailing or transportation. Its diagonal gluing prevents pulling or expansion.

Film-faced plywood is suitable for making horizontal formwork and girder formwork that must withstand strong forces and large volumes of fast-moving water while maintaining structural integrity and shape. It comes in thicknesses ranging from 12mm to 30mm, including common sizes like 12mm, 15mm, 18mm, 21mm, 24mm, and 27mm, depending on your requirements.

Zply™ Series Construction Plywood has 3 grades with different performance and price levels which can fulfill various formwork projects.

FAQs

1. What is film-faced plywood?

Film-faced plywood is a type of plywood that has a special film coating made of phenol or melamine on one or both sides. This coating enhances its resistance to moisture, abrasion, chemical degradation, and fungus, making it suitable for outdoor and industrial applications.

2. What are the main uses of film-faced plywood?

Film-faced plywood is commonly used in construction for concrete formwork, flooring, scaffolding platforms, and exterior surfaces of buildings. It is also used in the manufacturing of durable furniture, vehicle construction (such as truck and trailer floors), and sports facilities.

3. How is film-faced plywood different from regular plywood?

The primary difference is the film coating on film-faced plywood, which provides superior resistance to moisture, chemicals, and wear. This makes it more durable and suitable for harsh environments compared to regular plywood.

4. What are the benefits of using film-faced plywood?

High resistance to moisture, UV radiation, and corrosive chemicals

Enhanced durability and stability

Less likely to deform under harsh weather conditions

Versatile applications in construction, furniture, and industrial settings

Reduced risk of cracking or breaking during use

5. What are the common thicknesses available for film-faced plywood?

Film-faced plywood is available in various thicknesses, typically ranging from 12mm to 30mm. Common thicknesses include 12mm, 15mm, 18mm, 21mm, 24mm, and 27mm.

6. Is film-faced plywood suitable for outdoor use?

Yes, film-faced plywood is specifically designed for outdoor use. Its coating and edge sealing provide excellent protection against the elements, making it ideal for exterior surfaces and applications exposed to direct sunlight and harsh weather.

7. Can film-faced plywood be used for concrete formwork?

Absolutely. Film-faced plywood is widely used for concrete formwork due to its smooth surface, strength, and ability to withstand the pressure of concrete. It can be reused multiple times, making it a cost-effective choice for construction projects.

8. How should film-faced plywood be stored?

Film-faced plywood should be stored in a dry, well-ventilated area to prevent moisture absorption. It is best to keep it off the ground and covered with a waterproof sheet if stored outdoors.

9. What is WBP plywood, and how is it related to film-faced plywood?

WBP (Weather and Boil Proof) plywood is a type of plywood with strong resistance to water and moisture, achieved through a specific bonding and pressing process. Film-faced plywood often uses WBP as its base, providing additional protection through its phenolic or melamine coating.

10. How do I choose the right film-faced plywood for my project?

Consider the specific requirements of your project, such as the level of exposure to moisture, chemicals, and wear. Select the appropriate thickness and ensure the plywood has the necessary certifications and quality standards for your intended use.
